Hello, all my readers! I know its been about a month since I last wrote but let me tell you that it has been a CRAZY month! With school coming to a close Professors are trying push that last bit of knowledge in their student’s head before bombarding them with final exams. So as you can imagine and as i have stated, its a crazy month. Anyway, I’m here now and lets not talk about school because its depressing (just kidding or maybe not). So today I was watching an episode of “Everybody Loves Raymond” which I personally think is hilarious. In this particular episode Raymond told Debra that it was his writing that supported the household. To this Debra replied that she supported the household as well by being a stay at home mom. Now is it just me or doesn’t this conversation sound familiar? Haven’t we all heard this debate before?
Many modern women don’t believe that being a stay at home mom is a real job. These women advocate stay at home moms to go out “into the real world and get a real job.” Usually stay at home moms are depicted as having a low education, having no true dreams in life, lacking in certain personality traits such as drive, strength and motivation. So as you can see the term “stay at home mom” has a lot of negativity that comes with it in today’s world (I’m not even going to talk about the poor stay at home Dads). One major argument against these women is that they’r e not fulfilling their potential, but who can say this for sure? And what does it really mean to be fulfilled? Aren’t there many out there everyday who aren’t fulfilled with their lives? Drug dealers, thieves, janitors. Or maybe these people are happy just where they are doing what they do so maybe they are fulfilled. Is that so crazy to imagine?
Much value is placed on material things and social status in the world which is why many believe that for a person to be fulfilled he/she needs to make lots of money drive a nice car, be the CEO of a top company or something even more grand. But the world can’t be full of people like that? Everyone’s not going to be a CEO or rich and I’m sure there are a lot of people who don’t want to be. Some people just want the necessities, common things and whats so wrong with that? Whats so wrong with not wanting to have all the power and instead preferring to to just do what makes you happy even if its not as glamorous? Nothing is the answer. Some people just don’t want all the hassles that come with the things I listed above such as money and power. So to all the stay at home moms out there, I have to say this: Keep doing what you want to do and if you ever decided that you want to go into the “real world” than do it because fulfillment, in my young opinion, is doing whatever makes you happy and makes you fell complete. Take as you wish or throw it in the trash, whatever.
For one to be fulfilled you don’t have to look at their material goods or value. Sometimes just look at them as a person and see who they really are. And what does it take? It just takes doing what makes you happy instead of doing what society expects you to. If you’re fine being a teacher and not the man eater( just kidding) at a firm then do it. What’s that? You’re fine with throwing trash away. Okay, then do that because the only person who can really determine if you’re fulfilled is you. Until next time! Have a nice weekend.
